Claire Smyth is currently in her final year at Ulster University, Belfast where she is studying Contemporary Applied Arts, specialising in jewellery.

She aims to capture the essence of “place” and translate a sense of memory into jewellery, taking inspiration from her favourite childhood places, her granny’s cottage and family’s boatyard where she collects her materials. Focusing on small scale jewellery, mainly rings and brooches, allows an entire narrative to be compressed into a tiny package which holds meaning and a history. Each collection has a story to tell, inviting the viewer to look into Claire’s childhood memories and by producing a nostalgic response and sparking imagination, building their personal stories on top of her own.
